Service Improvement Analyst, Help Desk Analyst
2000 - 2013
Southern Company, Birmingham, AL
- Using extensive knowledge of the support environment - provided process improvement, research, ad hoc reporting, root-cause/trend analysis and automation of tasks. This required collecting and using customer’s business requirements to manage and/or construct databases (creation of tables, views, stored procedures, indexes, and functions in SQL Server, MySql, and Oracle), generate reports using C#, VB, Excel, and Access, and develop new application.
- Worked closely with IT customers to gather requirements, design, develop, implement, and maintain a number of applications for the support of IT. Applications were developed in a wide range of languages from VB to C#, and environments (fat client, web, & mobile devices). These applications have saved over a million dollars in otherwise lost analyst productivity.
- Integrated data from multiple enterprise database systems to provide seamless display of core business information in multiple systems using RESTful web services.
- Provided metrics and business driver information while participating in the industry benchmarking studies, resulting in improvements in business processes
- Participated on development teams by providing insight into complex, multi-tiered systems; and full life-cycle development.
- IT required a web portal for distributing reporting from ticketing system. Was asked to design a system that would allow users to login and access dynamic web reports. Designed the complete system (from infrastructure to system design), pulled resources together to build and deploy infrastructure, and fully developed system in ASP.NET, C#, Javascript, CSS, HTML. Built a custom JavaScript library, and integrated third-party libraries (such as Sencha ExtJs). System was primarily built for the Help Desk but was so successful as a platform, other applications were written and hosted on the platform.
- After IT conversion to BMC Remedy (IT ticketing system), was asked to build a management portal to address gaps with the Remedy Tool (specifically the lack of management level reporting). Designed and built a system that indexes data, and provides dynamic reporting, chart building, mapping, and spreadsheet like functionality. Added the ability to share views, export data to Excel, and subscribe to dynamic queries through RSS.
- Assisted a team in getting a SSIS, SSAS, SSRS system in place after new ticketing software was in place. Worked with Microsoft Contractor to develop fact and dimension tables. Transition initial work to Business Intelligence partner once platform ownership was determined.
- Developed Southern Company's first mobile application that field agents used to resolve incidents and change management tickets.
- Earned ITIL certification, participated in IT Service Management transformation project. Identified ticketing system integrations, and helped migrate them to BMC.
- Conceived, designed, developed and implemented (using agile methodology) an outage management system for use at the Help Desk. System automatically monitored outages and notified stakeholders of changes. System increased productivity, increased visibility of critical system outages, and saved thousands of hours in otherwise lost productivity.
- Used problem solving, technical, and customer service skills to ensure client’s problems and requests were resolved completely and in specified timeframe
